Point of View
A couple weeks ago, my friend Jacob said there was a haunted house that he used to visit during his mission. Because he served in Idaho Falls, it was not a long drive. Unfortunately, we were unable to go into the haunted house because it was still inhabited. Fortunately there was this cool string of lights hung between the trees along the driveway. I was not expecting the first photo to look as good as it does until I opened it up in Lightroom mobile. After taking the wide photo, I shifted perspective to get a closeup. In the future I would wait until it got darker to shoot directly into the light.
Capturing Shallow Depth
It was a bit tricky to get portrait mode to work at first, but after a couple weeks of practice, I was able to get some cool shots!
Using Lens Compression
While leaving Grand Teton National Park, the clouds started breaking, revealing the famous peaks. We stopped by the side of the road and found these awesome wild flowers. To get the lens compression effect, I picked a composition I liked and took a photo. I then zoomed out to my phone’s wide angle lens and reframed the flowers to be the same size.
Panorama
Panoramas give you plenty of file size flexibility when using your phone to take photos. Like portrait mode, using this technique carries a learning curve. To make sure the highlights are not blown out, start your panorama from the brightest part of your scene.
